The night of the Iguana (1964)

I don't know, but I can name very few characters that shaked me strong inside in all the movies I've watched in my life. But of all those characters played by great actors and actresses, It's Hannah Jelkes [Deborah Kerr's character] that shaked me to the bones just by looking at her face in this movie!
A movie about humans in quest for love, believe ... peace! ... in quest for relief ... relief of body, mind and soul.
For me it's hard to quote this movie, to quote it is to put at least half the dialogue in here. And it will humble the way the lines are delivered, so, I won't do it this time except for a small part of the poem delivered by Hannah grandpa.

The least I can say: I love this movie.



How calmly does the olive branch

I can feel the summer afternoon listening to it. But I woke up today singing it, maybe declaring my anger to this " Springy" Winter- I never listen to it in winter-, or maybe I'm in a "subconscious" good mood, which is something I sure doubt and find no reason for, anyway, this is a song for today :)

The Seventh Seal, 1957

A swedish movie I was introduced to the translated quotes of which a couple of years ago, by a dear friend, and I liked them, But yesterday I watched it for the first time, and liked it much. Though I don't understand the biblical verses that caused the title but I liked the rest of the quotes very much, a movie with a stunning atmosphere that I've never dealt with before!.

2 Cards

A few days ago I got 2 cards from my dearest friend, meshmesha.
Why do I mention them here, I guess because I feel they are the first cards I ever get as a real mature adult, not by law or bilogical standard, but by emotional standard.
Her words touched my heart and I thank her for them, really.

Her cards are 2 different states.
For the first one she said the photo reminded her of me very much, why?, she said maybe because of the music part in the photo, or "propably" because of the black and white photography with a red spot in it. It may be because i'm a classical person. Or because I seem contradicting and smoothly blended at the same time, I may be having this ability to give a little shock to some people every once in a while despite this dull stillness I project sometimes. I don't know meshmesha, you choose or give the correct answer, these are my guesses.
For the second card, she thought the words on it are describing her status in the past year, well of course it's true. But meshmesh, you have no idea, when I read them I felt like crying, in a way it described how I dealt with alot of things in my life, for a long time, not only the past few years, and I always knew I was right, but maybe we need to see our thoughts and believes phrased beautifully from time to time.

Thank you meshmesha for those 2 cards :) you still have a question to answer, why did the first card remind you of me ?

Well, to start a new year I've decided to start with one of my favorite things, Beauty!.

And to me Ava Gardner is the most beautiful brunette in the 20th century, and I guess the 21st as well.

حاجة صغيرة لكن مضايقانى جدا
مبدئيا أنا بحب المطر جدا ، لكن ........مفيش مطر! كنت منتظرة لأخر وقت فى ديسمبر لما أشوف هل الجو هايقلب و تيجى النوة ولا لأ !!................. ماجاتش
عادة و أنا صغيرة و لحد كام سنة فاتوا كان لازم لازم لااازم أخر كام يوم فى ديسمبر تيجى نوة و ليلة رأس السنة تبقى بترُخٌ زى ما بنقول فى أسكندرية يعنى بتمطر بقوة و هواء جامد و بارد وفيه إعتقاد ما أعرفش موجود فى باقى مصر ولا لأ أن المطر ليلة رأس السنة فأل خير للسنة الجديدة
من كام سنة ورأس السنة بتيجى جافة أو مطر على خفيف و السنة دى بالذات الدنيا ربيع و الجو بديع !!!! و أنا مش مبسوطة

لو كان حد قال لى سنة 1986 أو 1989 أو 1992 انك هاتعيشى لحد ما تقربي من (ويمكن تشوفى ... لو لي عمر ) سنة 2010 كنت بصيت له ببلاهة و سكتََ ويمكن قلت فى نفسى إيه التخريف ده ؟
ليه ؟ لأن أساسا وقتها ماكانش فيه حاجة اسمها 2010 . أخر رقم كنت أعرفه فى السنين كان 2000 و أى حاجة بعد كده كانت بتذكر بس فى قصص و أفلام الخيال العلمى .... أو ... كتابات المفكرين الجامدين اللى عندهم نظرة إستشرافية للمستقبل (البعيد بالنسبة لى وقتها)... توفيق الحكيم مثلا فى كتابه تحديات سنة 2000 اللى درسنا جزء منه فى المدرسة
إنما أنا !!!!!! ....... ما كنتش أتخيل فعلا ... لما بأفتكر دلوقتى وأنا عمرى 10 -11 -12 سنة أحيانا لما كان ذكر سنة 2000 بيجى فى كتاب أو مجلة و أقول لنفسى يااااااه ده أنا هابقى كبييييرة و عندى خمممممسسسسة و عشرييييين سنة "بحالهم" بأضحك . صحيح الزمن ده نسبي جدا ... و أنت عمرك 10 سنين بتقول أن الكبر "المطلق" هو أنك تبقى عمرك 25 سنة و النهاردة و أنا عمرى 35 بأبص للى عمرهم 25 على أنهم يا دوووووب إبتدوا يفهموا أى حاجة
بس دلوقتى مش مستغربة من رقم 2050 مثلا و بأقول لو لي عمر( أو يمكن عندى أمل :) ها يبقى 75 سنة والله أعلم حالتى إيه . يمكن هو ده التطور العقلى الطبيعى بقى :)

المهم أن 2010 هاتكون بعد أقل من 48 ساعة و كل سنة وكل الناس طيبين . و يارب تبقى أحسن من اللى قبلها لكل الناس

Juror #12: What are you trying to say? Those people sat on the stand under oath.
Juror #8: They're only people. People make mistakes. Could they be wrong?
Juror #12: Well, no, I don't think so.
Juror #8: Do you 'know' so?
Juror #12: Oh, come on. Nobody can know a thing like that. This isn't an exact science.
Juror #8: That's right, it isn't.

Juror #3: You're talking about a matter of seconds. Nobody can be that accurate.
Juror #8: Well I think that testimony that can put a boy into the electric chair SHOULD be that accurate.

[after Juror #10 explains that he believes the boy is guilty because of the testimony of the woman across the street]
Juror #8: I'd like to ask you something: you don't believe the boy's story; how come you believe the woman's? She's one of 'them', too, isn't she?
Juror #10: You're a pretty smart fella, aren't you?

[after another vote is taken, the count is six to six]
Juror #10: Six to six... I'm telling you, some of you people in here must be out of your minds. A kid like that...
Juror #9: I don't think the kind of boy he is has anything to do with it. The facts are supposed to determine the case.
Juror #10: Don't give me that. I'm sick and tired of facts! You can twist 'em anyway you like, you know what I mean?
Juror #9: That's exactly the point this gentleman has been making.
[indicates Juror #8]


Juror #8: It's always difficult to keep personal prejudice out of a thing like this. And wherever you run into it, prejudice always obscures the truth. I don't really know what the truth is. I don't suppose anybody will ever really know. Nine of us now seem to feel that the defendant is innocent, but we're just gambling on probabilities - we may be wrong. We may be trying to let a guilty man go free, I don't know. Nobody really can. But we have a reasonable doubt, and that's something that's very valuable in our system. ‏‏أرجو أن تقرأ القصة التالية بعناية أو الواقعة التي حصلت في احدي الجامعات المحترمة جدا لنعلم لماذا لا توجد الجامعات المصرية في قائمة الجامعات المحترمة‏,‏ وسياسة التعليم الجامعي التي تهدف إلي تخريج موظف حكومي بيروقراطي أو موظف فاسد أو موظف يسمع الكلام فقط‏,
‏
وفعلا كما قال عضو مجلس شعب سياسة التعليم لا تريد إنسانا محترما يفكر ويبدع ويخترع تريد مواطنا فاسدا فقط‏,‏ تقدم مجموعة من الشباب الذين يدرسون الكمبيوتر في قسم هندسة الكمبيوتر في احدي الجامعات المحترمة جدا والغالية جدا باقتراح مبدئي لمشروع التخرج للأستاذ المشرف عليهم المجموعة الأولي لتصميم طائرة بالكامل بدون طيار والمجموعة الأخري لتصميم السوفت واير للتحكم بها ومن حسن حظهم هناك مسابقة عالمية سوف تقام بين طلاب كل جامعات العالم خلال‏4‏ أشهر لنفس الموضوع تحمس الطلاب والأستاذ لأن الاستفادة مزدوجة‏,‏ مشروع تخرج‏,‏ والاشتراك في المسابقة باسم الجامعة وباسم مصر‏,‏

وبدأت المجموعة الأولي المعنية بالتصميمات منذ شهرين العمل بجد وبدأت المجموعة الثانية المعنية بتصميم البرامج والسوفت واير العمل منذ أسبوعين فقط وفجأة دعاهم الأستاذ إلي مكتبه وأبلغهم وهو مكتئب‏:‏ اصرفوا نظر هاك تعليمات محددة بعدم التفكير‏,‏ أو وضع أي مشاريع للطلاب لتصنيع أو اختراع أي شئ يطير هذا ما قاله الأستاذ بالحرف خليكم علي الأرض اعملوا موقع ولا عجلة ولا حتي فيديو راقص أو سوفت واير للفتاوي هذا المطلوب‏,‏ ثار الطلبة ثورة الشباب لماذا ونحن نريد رفع اسم مصر نيد أن نخترع حاجة للبلد‏,‏ كان الرد ارفعوا اسم مصر في الاستاد فقط في مباراة كرة أو في برنامج استار اكاديمي‏,‏

وحاولوا مقابلة نائب رئيس الجامعة والمطالبة برؤية تلك التعليمات مكتوبة ومن أي جهة وهو علي فكرة أستاذ فاضل ومحترم‏,‏ ولكنه لم يقابلهم وخاطبني ابني ثائرا لماذا لا يقابلنا قلت له هو لا يريد أن ينظر في وجوهكم ولا تنظروا في وجهه لتروا مدي احباطه وتلك التعليمات الأمنية سيف علي رقبته ممنوع أي مشاريع لأي حاجة تطير في النهاية قال لهم الأستاذ إن شاء الله لما تهاجروا وهو قريب جدا صمموا هناك وتفوقوا وأحصلوا علي نوبل ثم مصر تكرمكم وتعمل لكم حفلة راقصة ممتازة واعمل وا واخترعوا هناك وارقصوا هنا فقط في مصر‏!!!‏ أنا لا أتكلم عن قصة خيالية أو قصة مختلقة بل هي قصة حقيقية ولكن أرجو ألا يطلب المعلومات أحد ليعاقب الطلبة‏.‏

وقبل أن اختم‏:‏ في المقابل شاهدت علي إحدي القنوات حلقة باسم موعد في المهجر لأستاذ جامعي مصري يرأس وحدة أبحاث محركات الطائرات في أكبر شركة في كندا‏,‏ وفي نفس الوقت رئيس قسم في احدي الجامعات في نفس البلد‏,‏ وكان الحوار ممتعا لشخص تفوق في مصر ثم استفاد منه الغرب وهو عضو في لجنة تطوير محركات الطائرات في حلف الناتو بجنسيته الكندية ولخص الحلقة عن كيفية الاستفادة من طلاب الجامعات وإشراكهم في قسم الأبحاث للشركة وبأجر‏,‏ لتقديم كل أفكارهم وإبداعهم وحماسهم لتطوير المحركات‏,‏ وفي النهاية تبني كل من لديه فكرة جديدة مفيدة ويشعر الطالب بتفوقه ويبدع ويخلق ويفكر ويحلق لأبعد مدي في النهاية هو المستفيد والشركة مستفيدة والجامعة مستفيدة‏,‏ لا تعليق‏!!‏

أرجو منك أن تتكرم بزيارة لمركز براءة الاختراع فتري بنفسك مئات الآلاف من الأفكار النابهة المركونة علي الأرفف وفي المخازن‏,‏ لأن لدينا قوي غريبة تدفعنا للتخلف‏,‏ وتدعم طاحونة الفساد بكل إخلاص‏!‏

...مشمشة : ده ليه علاقة بمناقشتنا من أسبوع . تعرفى ، كل ما أفتكر ده أبتسم من وجهة نظرنا... ... ... ياللا

To judge or not to judge, that is A question.

Well, *The* question was to Be or not to Be, but among the most important questions that some of us have to face in a life time is do we judge or do we not judge the other ? mostly in our society we tend to judge, even if we try to look liberal, I know that. And some don't ever stop for a moment to ask themselves the previous question at all.
I think maybe I was judgmntal by heredity during my teens, but some time after that, for whatever reason, maybe the evolving of my real personality, I developed a habit of bieng un-judgmental to some extent. Maybe I apply the "he who is without sin let cast the first stone" or maybe I believe that the final destination is the most important part of the journey, we can get lost in the maze for a while but if we find the correct path, then ... all is well that ends well.
I never really realized that charactaristic in me till a couple of years ago. I do have my rights, my worngs and my red-lines-not-to-be-crossed, Still I developed this habit where I caluculate the equation first before I give my ... answer, so that I'm not being judgmental in a blind manner. I have to have a Reason.
That explained to me why, during the past 10 years, did I accept some scenarios from some people I met though I never accepted the same scenarios from some other people, a little change in the equation made all the difference.
And that was easy... till I had to face the question again, but with myself as a part of the equation!.
If I decide not to judge, then I'll just drop the case.Leave the equation unsolved, hoping it's not a critical one, with whatever hazards to that.
If I decide to judge, then I'll have to be a prosecutor, a juror and a judge, plus, the accuser. And that's why this question poped up in the first place.
Can I do that?, can I be this .... well, heavenly creature !?. A creature who ,as a prosecutor, will get all the answers to all the questions, and, as a juror and a judge, won't be biased to the accuser or against the defendant.
That's my argument, frail and fragile, simple and confusing ... ... ...
I rest my case!.

There's lots of good fish in the sea. . .maybe. . .but the vast masses seem to be mackerel or herring, and if you're not mackerel or herring yourself you are likely to find very few good fish in the sea.


Time went on. Whatever happened, nothing happened, because she was so beautifully out of contact. She and Clifford lived in their ideas and his books. She entertained. . .there were always people in the house. Time went on as the clock does, half past eight instead of half past seven.

شفت محمود رضا و فريدة فهمي يا جدعاااااااااان
أنا بحب فرقة رضا من زماااااااااااااااان و بحب رقصاتهم لكن عمري ما خطر فى بالي إنى ممكن أحضر حفلة يكون فيها الفرقة بنفس جوها القديم قبل العمعمة - عكس الخصخصة - و الأكثر أشوفهم هما الأثنين شخصيا . يمكن كل مرة كنت بأشوف فيها فيلمهم الأشهر -غرام فى الكرنك- اللى بيتعرض أكتر بكثير من الفيلم الثانى - أجازة نص السنة - كنت بأزعل أني مش ها تتاح لى الفرصة أشوف الناس دى بجد و مفيش بالنسبة لى معنى إطلاقا أشوف نسخة باهتة منهم !!!. حتى أسبوع فات الوضع كان كده وبعده مر على إعلان عن حفلة لفرقة محمود رضا و فرقة الأندلس من أسبانيا إحتفالا باليوبيل الذهبي للفرقة فى مكتبة الأسكندرية و أن محمود رضا هايكون موجود فى ندوات و مائدة مستديرة . حجزت الحفلة وكان عندى أمل خفى بوجود محمود و فريدة و لو أنى لم أتوقعه لأن الندوات و اللقاءات صباحا و الحفلات مساءاً.
حضرت الحفل الأنيق الجمييييييييل براقصات جميلات دمهم خفيف و راقصين فيهم السمرة المصرية الأصيلة و ملابس دقيقة التفاصيل بألوان مبهجججججة و إضاءة راااااااااااااائعة و موسيقى كلنا عارفينها من أول حلاوة شمسنا حتى موشح غريب الدار.
الموشحات و بالذات "لحظُُ رنا" كانت بالنسبة لي لحظات فى حلم مش حقيقة أبدا . مش قادرة أقول غير كده ... لحظات فى حلم
المفاجأة المذهلة و السعييييييييدة بالنسبة لى كانت وقوف محمود رضا فى أخر الحفل لتحية الجمهور و تكريم بعض أعضاء الفرقة القدامى و الفرقة الأسبانية اللى إكتشفنا أن الراقصات كلهم منها و الراقصين المصريين من فرقة محمود رضا و ظهرت الفريدة - فريدة فهمي - أنيقة ببساطتها المذهلة و خجلها الواضح و قوامها الفارع و حيوية تخليك تقدر سنها بالكتير 55 -60 سنة مع أنها طبعا أكبر بكثير( شخصيا حسيت بالفشل الذرييييييييع :) . محمود رضا بنفس الأناقة و البساطة المعتادة زادت عليهم بس نظارة و بطء بسيط فرضته سنواته الـ 80

اللفتة الجميلة إنهم رقصوا مع الفرقة فى نهاية الحفلة بعد التكريم لفترة بسيطة قبل إغلاق الستار للمرة الأخيرة ....فى الواقع ما حسيتش أنها لفتة للجمهور يمكن أكتر ... هو شوق منهم و من محمود رضا بالذات للرقص مرة ثانية و لولا الزمن و تأثيره يمكن كان أسعدنى الحظ وشفتهم هم نفسهم اللى بيرقصوا على المسرح طول الحفل .

الحكمة بتقول أن تصل متأخرا أفضل من ألا تصل أبدا ...... أنا كنت سعيييييييدة بوصولى المتأخر ده

الماضي المجهول

معرفش ليه من مراهقتى المبكرة بحب الفيلم ده
يمكن بسبب احمد سالم !!! شخصيته من الشخصيات اللى اكتشفت انها شخصياتى المفضلة احب و اكره صفاتها فى نفس الوقت ( يمكن اكون محتاجة علاج نفسى من انفصام فى الشخصية ...أو يمكن دى الطبيعة المزدوجة للحوت ) ده حسبما أتذكر مما كتب عنه محمد التابعى . وأن سبب وفاته فى سن صغير نسبيا 39- سنة - هو رصاصة كامنة أتحركت من مكانها .والنهاردة كمان اكتشفت انه من نفس برجى "الحوت" 20 فبراير 1910.
الفيلم انتاج 1946 . و النهاردة اتفرجت عليه تانى . اللى إسترعى انتباهى النهاردة فى الفيلم هو التتر . بسيط و أنيق و الأكثر و الأهم انه بيحترم المشاهد و التاريخ كمان.
القصة و السيناريو و الإخراج لأحمد سالم نفسه و التتر ذكر كل الممثلين و شخصياتهم فى الفيلم وذكر كل فريق العمل من إضاءة و مونتاج و حتى الرجيسير بإحترام .
كمان ذكر كل الأغانى و الملحنين بالتفصيل و بالنسبة حتى للإهداء كتب أن أغنيتين من أغانى الفيلم إهداء من محمد عبد الوهاب
اللى عجبنى جدا أن أغنية منهم مهداة بتصريح من الإذاعة الاسلكية المصرية !! أعتقد أنها الأغنية المعروفة حاليا بإسم "الفن" و فى الفيلم إسمها "الدنيا ليل" يعنى الفيلم راعى حتى حقوق الملكية الفكرية اللى بنتكلم عنها النهاردة .
كمان الفيلم راعى ذكر أن القصة مستوحاة من أبحاث طبية لعالم فرنسى اسمه على ما أتذكر "شاركوه" . ببساطة بيقول أحنا عندنا أساس علمى . و فى النهاية الفيلم أكد أن كل الشخصيات و الأحداث من وحى الخيال و دى ملاحظة مش عارفة إيه سببها فى قصة زى قصة الفيلم ده بالذات .
المهم أن الفيلم ده كان فرصة سعيدة أن ليلى مراد تغنى رائعة عبد الوهاب "الفن" كاملة متضمنة حتى الجزء الخاص بالفاروق اللى تم حذفه من نسخة عبد الوهاب بعد ثورة يوليو و تغنى أغنية من الفلكلور المصري على ما أعتقد - أو هى أصبحت من الفلكلور المصري بعد ذلك - هى "سلم علىّ" موسيقى أو توزيع عبد الحليم نويرة.
مش عارفة ... بغض النظر عن أناقة الفيلم فالتتر هو اللى زود إحساسى بهوة بيننا و بين ماضينا القريب .
و مع الأحداث القريبة اللى صاحبت وفاة الأميرة فريال .... حاسة بضيق

A phrase, from a song I used to love aloooong time ago, Father and Son by Boyzone.

Of all the lyrics of the song I loved this phrase the most, maybe making it one of my head banners or mottos to turn back to every once in a while, and I believed in it much. I may be believing in fate alot but I also believe that we need to really use the brain we're gifted. Today I remembered this phrase and thank God that I applied it in my life for the most important parts of it. In a way i'm sorry for some people who didn't, cause *I think* I know how hard we pay alot for the worng choices we make along the way.

For some time this song, and though the version I have is a happy version by Sinatra, brought heartache to me.
